Sarahah ‘a new trend’
We are familiar with the new trend called Sarahah. Of Course, hearing things about yourself out loud seems fun, but what limits does this fun hold? There existed apps like sarahah in India before, like ask.fm and sayat.me. Hence, people were already well aware of this concept and the people who weren’t, gave it a try. Here, it becomes very important for us to learn how sarahah a threat can damage young minds.
How to use it?
It’s a very simple procedure. You create an account in sarahah by registering yourself through an email in the downloaded app or website. The app can be downloaded through play store in android phones and iPhones. After you register yourself, you can get random anonymous comments on your wall. For getting people to post these comments on your account, you share this on all social media platforms.
Sarahah was developed by Zain al-Abidin Tawfiq in 2016. With the motive that people could give anonymous feedback in the workplace without fear of retribution from their bosses. But after the immense popularity this app received in the Arabic language. This app was further developed in English and since then it is flourishing like Pot Marigold. Sarahah which literally means “honesty” in Arabic is what this app grows. With more than 10 million downloads, sarahah is everybody’s internet top feed.
Sarahah a threat;
When we follow trends, all corners either dark or bright should be touched. Sarahah is THE INTERNET SENSATION today, but within it is the darkness that gets difficult to escape. Sarahah is mostly used by teens and can lead to mental disorders and suicidal tendencies. Here is how Sarahah a threat can be identified. Now, it seems pretty intense to read such things about some app which is made of the lightest content. The posts on people’s accounts are anonymous and can be both pleasant and distasteful. It causes cyber bully capacities.
Sarahah recently received a review from a mother saying,“My son signed up for an account and within 24 hours someone posted a horribly racist comment on his page including saying that he should be lynched.”
This app also encourages stalking behaviour by letting people post random derogatory comments for girls. A large number of girls have received sexual comments. A teenage mind is full of curiosities and is in the process of growing. At this time if teens receive hatred from anonymous people online, it can have harsh and discouraging effects on these young brains. Sarahah hence can not just demotivate people but initiate mental disorder among these people.
It has become important to put anonymous hatred to an end soon enough to stop it from becoming another Blue Whale episode.
